September 15 & 16, 2009

OMG I cannot believe I forgot to post today-and it's such a good one! I guess I will push it back to Wednesday. Sorry!

Seth Grahame-Smith has monopolized on our nation’s love of the undead through the successful run (it hit #3 on the New York Times’ best seller list) of his new book, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, the first mash-up book to ever be created. Following in his footsteps is Ben H. Winters’ Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters, being released upon the world today.

Grab a copy of one of your favorite books and “monsterize” at least the first page.

(should this be a 2-day assignment? discuss in the comments)

September 10, 11, 12, 2009 _________s in the Mist

This one’s going to be fun! For the next few days you get to be your own version of Jane Goodall or Louis Leakey. You may not get to go immerse yourself for years in a world of primates, but for this topic, try to immerse yourself for at least an hour with a culture or social system that you are not familiar with. Here is the breakdown of your assignment:

Day 1 (today): brainstorm a list of five or so possible subject groups.

Day 2: Go do your hour + of field work, and post some of your notes.

Day 3: Write a brief ethnography of your chosen research group.

This is a great resource on how to write an ethnography:

9/09/09

Today is a very special day, one we won’t see the likes of for another century. Check out this article (and tons more like it) about the significance of today’s date and the number 9. Today, write a brief piece of fiction where a number is significant to the plot or your character (hello, Lost!)

September 8, 2009 Leia + Lando = 2gether 4ever
